WICHITA - A Gardner man who took part in a 2013 chase and shootout that injured a sheriff’s deputy has been sentenced to more than 35 years in prison.
The Wichita Eagle reports that 38-year-old Jason Perez was ordered to serve the 427-month term for about a dozen crimes he and his then-girlfriend committed on March 11, 2013.
Among his convictions was the first-degree murder of deputy Lucas Powell. Powell was killed after attempting a traffic stop on I-135 that ended in a gunfire exchange neat Potwin.
