As impassioned politicians across the country call for halting the influx of Syrian refugees into the United States, 35 United Methodist congregations in Kansas and Nebraska announced Friday that they are willing to sponsor Syrian families.
Bishop Scott Jones with the church’s Great Plains Conference said Methodists have long played a role in welcoming immigrants to the United States. The bishop cited Hebrews 13:2: “Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by doing that some have entertained angels without knowing it.”
