A complaint submitted to Shawnee County’s district attorney Friday alleges Lt. Gov. Jeff Colyer potentially ran afoul of Kansas law by spending campaign donations on an army of defense lawyers amid a federal grand jury investigation and by allegedly relying upon campaign assets to secure a personal loan.
The issues were raised in a memorandum forwarded to District Attorney Chad Taylor that followed disclosure by the Brownback-Colyer campaign $167,000 in donations were expended on legal payments to five law firms.
