A plume of noxious gas fogged over parts of Atchison after a chemical spill at a distillery plant there Friday, causing at least 85 people to seek medical attention.
Shortly before 9 a.m., a large plume formed when two chemicals were inadvertently combined at the MGP Ingredients plant, which takes up several blocks in the city.
The cloud of gas had mostly dissipated by 10:30 a.m., but some residents and school children were evacuated from the city for a time, Atchison city manager Trey Cocking said.
