HOLTON — On most Kansas cattle operations, cowboys spend a lot more time moving livestock than they do trying to stay astride a bucking bovine. That is why trailer loading is a ranch rodeo event and bull riding isn’t.

The events at the seventh annual Jackson County Ranch Rodeo are designed to be closer to the day-to-day work of cowboys and cowgirls, explained announcer Robert Sieberns, of Olpe, to spectators Sept. 24 at the David and Evelyn Family Arena at the Northeast Kansas Heritage Complex, 12200 124th Road, south of Holton.
