Because “Unbroken” tells the story of a World War II bombardier held captive in a series of Japanese prisoner-of-war camps, it was a perfect fit for the Kansas Museum of History to show in conjunction with its special exhibit about a Kansan who also was a Japanese POW.
However, another element of the movie based on the life of Louis “Louie” Zamperini makes it even more timely and topical. Before WWII, Zamperini competed as a distance runner on the U.S. track team at the 1936 Berlin Olympics.
