Mix “Beach Blanket Bingo,” “Mommie Dearest” and Hitchcock’s “Marnie” and you have some of the plot lines of Ad Astra Theatre Ensemble’s summer offering, “Psycho Beach Party.”
The campy comedy, which runs through Sunday at the Topeka Scottish Rite Center, 2300 S.W. 30th, got its start at playwright Charles Busch’s off off Broadway theater as a midnight show originally titled “Gidget Goes Psychotic.”
Busch eventually expanded the script into a one-act play that opened in 1987 and become his best-known work.
