Prosecutors have until Thursday to file a complaint against a 20-year-old Texas man authorities say is tied to the weekend slaying of a Topeka motorist, a Shawnee County District Court judge said Thursday.
Joseph Gerard Cooney, of Rock Port, Texas, was booked into Shawnee County Jail at 11:09 p.m. Saturday for matters unrelated to the slaying, but authorities later added a count of first-degree murder.
At Cooney’s first appearance Wednesday, District Judge William Ossmann set his bond at $500,000 cash or professional surety bond. ...
