A Topeka City Council committee Tuesday discussed doing away with the city’s requirement that citizens notify the city clerk by 5 p.m. the day of the meeting if they plan to speak to the council.
Councilwoman Karen Hiller told of situations in which people spent considerable time working up the nerve to talk to the council, then showed up only to learn they wouldn’t be allowed to speak because they hadn’t notified the city clerk in advance.
“You shouldn’t have to know the drill to get to speak to the city,” she said.
