Vandals used red paint to deface a sign marking the Topeka Cemetery. The vandalism was discovered on Monday.
Marred was the sign at S.E. 10th and California, which reads “Topeka Cemetery: where history has lived since 1859.” The sign is on the outside of the cemetery, which has a fence marking much of the border.
“It seems to be coming off,” Lisa Sandmeyer, cemetery superintendent, said of the paint several hours after the vandalism was spotted. “It had to have happened very recently.”
