The five public school board presidents serving Shawnee County districts urged lawmakers Tuesday to promptly appropriate state funding to correct an unconstitutional inequity diagnosed by the Kansas Supreme Court.
House and Senate members convene Thursday for a special session to consider options for complying with the court’s order to close a financing division among poor and wealthy districts. There is a sense that appropriating $38 million to K-12 public schools would resolve the legal impasse.
