Jayhawk Theatre taps roots singer Hunt to raise money

Kelley Hunt, who will perform a benefit concert June 18 to help restore Topeka’s Jayhawk State Theatre of Kansas, knows what such a venue can do for a downtown.

Hunt grew up in Emporia, where she said her mother serves on the board that preserved from the wrecking ball that community’s historic Granada Theatre.

The renovated Granada “has changed the fabric of the downtown Emporia area,” Hunt said Monday morning at an announcement in front of the stage of the Jayhawk, 720 S.W. Jackson.
