About 1:30 p.m. last Thursday, when the rest of Topeka was leery of a possible tornado in the area, Shawnee Yacht Club Commodore Mark Marling was docking his sailboat, hustling to get it out of the water before lightning struck.
Marling, who has been sailing since he was 8 years old, said he has stopped sailing a couple of times, but quitting never stuck. As a result, he has spent the majority of his life as a member of the yacht club.
