A fire early Friday destroyed a two-story house just west of downtown Topeka. No firefighters were injured while extinguishing the fire, said Rusty Vollintine, fire investigator for the Topeka Fire Department. The fire was on the northwest corner of S.W. 7th and Polk.
At the fire scene, Vollintine said the fire in the two-story house was discovered at 1:11 a.m. Friday by neighbors who smelled smoke.
