The Legislature’s response to the Kansas Supreme Court’s declaration of an unconstitutional inequity in state aid to public schools is expected to become law by Friday, with or without signature of Gov. Sam Brownback.

The bill, designed to answer shortcomings in state financing to poor school districts, would redistribute $83 million already appropriated to schools so none would lose money in 2016-17. The governor is given 10 days from delivery of the bill to sign or veto the measure. If he takes a pass, the bill automatically becomes law.
