Teen sentenced to three years of intensive supervised probation in sporting goods store holdup

A teenager who was one of four youths taking part in an armed robbery of the Academy Sports + Outdoors store on July 10 was sentenced Friday to three years of intensive supervised probation in the case.

On Jan. 7, Jared Bryce Elder, then 17, pleaded guilty to three felonies tied to the holdup of the store at 1133 S.W. Wanamaker Road.

Elder, of Topeka, turned 18 in February. Elder made the guilty pleas to one count of aggravated robbery and two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
