U.S. Senate refuses to advance Sen. Pat Roberts' bill on GMO labeling

The U.S. Senate on Wednesday voted down an effort by Sen. Pat Roberts to prohibit states from requiring genetically modified food labels.

The bill would have created a U.S. Department of Agriculture voluntary labeling standard for genetically modified products, referred to as bioengineered food in the legislation.
